GEM celebrates second year achievements at annual meeting on Monday, Oct. 21
DETROIT, October 21, 2024 – After a year of planning and preparation in 2023, the Global Epicenter of Mobility (GEM), a signature program of the Detroit Regional Partnership (DRP) designed to support the development of the advanced mobility industry in the Detroit region, honors second year economic development efforts and impact, including securing investment and the release of industry research including the Future Mobility Technology Study.
“After an extensive year of planning, research and outreach in 2023, our team was prepared to enact our economic development activities swiftly to make the greatest impact possible in 2024,” said Christine Roeder, executive vice president for GEM. “From providing cutting-edge regional data to attract new investment, to laying the foundation for reskilling programs, our efforts these last 12 months have been successful, but there’s still more work to be done in a short amount of time.”
Notably, GEM’s focus in 2024 was to produce tangible results that would move the needle in cementing the Detroit region as an impactful leader in the mobility industry. GEM’s notable 2024 achievements include:
Advancements through Research: Published the Future Mobility Technology Study, identifying the seven mobility technologies positioned to have the most impact in the region by 2030.
Expanding Site Readiness: More than 30 new industrial sites entered the Verified Industrial Properties (VIP) program in 2024, DRPs award-winning industrial site readiness program.
Securing Investments: Exceeded the fiscal year goal of securing more than $140 million in venture capital investments.
Building a Workforce Pipeline: Hosted multiple learning events across the region and conducted more than 300 mobility career consultations and enrolled 139 job seekers in training.

Through the Biden-Harris Administration’s American Rescue Plan, EDA was proud to invest $52 million in the future of this great American city that will keep the country and the world moving for years to come.”
In 2025, GEM plans to continue their efforts to promote outside investment, fuel policy recommendations, meet workforce needs and provide supply-chain insights to enable regional growth and attract mobility companies to the Detroit region.
