E-Motors

Why are E-Motors an Important Technology for the Detroit Region’s mobility industry?

E-Motors are a critical component of the electrification of vehicles in all mobility sectors. They use electricity provided by a battery to propel the vehicle and are used at all levels of vehicle electrification, from hybrids to full battery-electric vehicles. A vehicle may use one e-motor or as many as four – one driving each wheel.

United States E-Motor production for all mobility sectors is forecast to grow significantly, from 3.2 million in 2024 to 14.1 million by 2030, representing a 341% increase from 2024 levels. The Detroit Region’s expertise in developing and producing a wide array of powertrain and electronic components positions it well for meeting the E-Motor needs of not just the automotive industry, but also the other mobility sectors shifting to electrification.
